SEOUL, Feb. 13 (Korea Bizwire) — More than 130 overseas products that had been recalled in other countries for safety reasons were sold in the local market last year, the Korea Consumer Agency said Wednesday.
The agency recommended sales suspension, product exchanges, free repairs and other remedy measures on 132 such products in 2017, up 24.5 percent from the previous year. The goods were mostly bought through direct online purchases.
Original manufacturing countries were identified for 87 of the products, of which 35, or 40.2 percent, were from China. Goods from the United States accounted for 26.4 percent, Germany 5.8 percent, and Britain and Italy 4.6 percent each.
Children-related items were the highest at 38 (28.8 percent), followed by foods and beverages at 24 (18.2 percent) and cosmetics at 21 (15.9 percent).
The most frequent reason for the recalls was the risks of young children swallowing small toy parts (51.3 percent).
