SEJONG, Apr. 4 (Korea Bizwire) — The Rural Development Administration (RDA) has developed a new livestock management system that uses information and communication technology (ICT) to allow for the management of livestock anywhere at any time.
“Previously, the lack of systems that integrate various devices has forced farmers to use different, unsynchronized programs,” said RDA officials.
“The new livestock management system is capable of integrating data from various devices to closely control the living environment and health condition of the animals.”
The RDA said that the new model will increase productivity as well as convenience in managing farms.
Farms that have introduced the new livestock model were able to increase their number of animals by as much as 30, thanks to the reduction of manpower. The mortality rate of calves has also dropped by more than 50 percent.
Milk produced each day has increased by an average of 3 kilograms, and the replacement rate has dropped down to 1.5 percent.
The South Korean government plans to increase investment to introduce ICT devices at 5,750 locations, 25 percent of all livestock farms in the country, by 2022.
