SEOUL, March 31 (Korea Bizwire) — The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) said Wednesday it had successfully completed a demonstration of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) service used for the real-time, simultaneous control and management of various facilities and robots of a smart factory from various parts of the world.
The ETRI used the 5G test networks at the University of Oulu in Finland and Korea Advanced Research Network (KOREN), a non-profit testbed network infrastructure, to connect with the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology’s smart factory located in Gyeongsan, North Gyeongsang Province.
The demonstration showed how the new remote manufacturing service is capable of controlling the factory from various parts of the world.
The ETRI Control Center demonstrated remote Manufacturing Execution System (MES) operation as well as remote, real-time facility control and monitoring services.
The control center in Oulu, Finland showed demonstrations of remote control and monitoring of mobile manufacturing robots, remote manufacturing control through VR devices, and remote manufacturing monitoring by a collection of data through wireless sensors.
Despite the sheer distance of over 10,000 kilometers, the real-time remote control and monitoring system showed response delays of less than 0.01 seconds from KOREN and less than 0.3 seconds from Oulu.
