SEOUL, Dec. 20 (Korea Bizwire) — The average commuting time for South Korean workers is over 70 minutes per day, but those in the wider Seoul area need to spend nearly 10 more minutes each day to commute, the statistics agency said Friday.
The national average commuting time came to 73.9 minutes in 2024, while the Seoul metropolitan area recorded the longest commuting time at 82 minutes, according to Statistics Korea.
“The high traffic congestion in the metropolitan area, where many workers commute to Seoul, is reflected in the figures,” an agency official said.
Workers in their 30s had the longest commuting time, at 76.9 minutes. As age increased, commuting times tended to shorten.
Workers with preschool-aged children had an average commuting time of 77 minutes, longer than the average 73.7 minutes for those without young children.
