SEOUL, March 4 (Korea Bizwire)A South Korean steelmaker has developed a coated steel sheet that blocks the coronavirus.

Dongkuk Steel Mill Co. announced Wednesday that it had made improvements to Luxteel Bio, South Korea’s first anti-bacteria coated steel sheet, to develop a product that can kill 99.9 percent of coronavirus agents within 30 minutes.

Antibacterial coated steel sheets had already been certified for their effectiveness against bacteria and mold, but not viruses such as COVID-19.

Dongkuk Steel teamed up with a South Korean agency specializing in certification of virus-related products to develop an anti-virus coated steel sheet in September of last year.

Development of the steel sheets was completed in February, and Dongkuk Steel is currently engaged in final tests with a paint company for mass production.

The company will share Luxteel Bio’s antivirus additive with the paint company for various applications.
