SEOUL, July 28 (Korea Bizwire) – Samsung Electronics Co. said Friday it topped the U.S. home appliances market in the April-June period, standing as the No. 1 player for the fifth consecutive quarter.
Citing the data compiled by U.S. market tracker Traqline, the South Korean tech giant said it remained the top company in terms of sales. Samsung first emerged as the leading firm by taking up 16.7 percent of the market in the second quarter of 2016.
In the January-June period, Samsung accounted for 22.3 percent of the refrigerator market, up 4.6 percentage points from a year earlier. The company, in particular, held 32.5 percent of French door refrigerator sales, becoming the top producer in this area for the 33rd consecutive quarter.
Samsung, moreover, took up 19.4 percent of the U.S. washer market in the first half, it added.
The company said it has been making various efforts to secure a sustainable growth engine in the U.S. market.
In June, Samsung said it will invest US$380 million in Newberry County, South Carolina, in line with steps to tap deeper into the world’s leading consumer market.
