SEOUL, Feb. 21 (Korea Bizwire) — Samsung Electronics Co. is actively using a Chinese mobile game to highlight the performance of its latest Galaxy S23 series.
The South Korean tech giant recently installed “Genshin Impact,” an online role-playing game from Chinese video gaming company miHoYo, on the Galaxy S23 devices it displayed at its domestic stores and retail shops, according to industry sources.
The game also appears several times in ads for the Galaxy S23.
This move came after the Galaxy S23’s predecessor was engulfed in controversy.
The Galaxy S22 series came under intense scrutiny at home and abroad last year for their built-in game optimizing service designed to optimize CPU and other performance to prevent overheating during gaming.
The service has been applied in other Samsung smartphone models as well, where it can be disabled or removed, but it became impossible to do so on the Galaxy S22 models that come with the One UI 4.0 update, triggering complaints that Samsung is trying to artificially limit the phone performance, such as the operation of smartphone apps.
Several domestic and foreign YouTubers and IT media verified the game performance of the Galaxy S22. One of the games that they used to compare it with other devices was “Genshin Impact.”
Despite being a mobile-based game, it features striking graphics, similar to PC and console games, and is thus regarded as an optimal choice to test device performance.
The domestic game industry is worrying that Chinese game developers’ capability is already surpassing that of their South Korean rivals.
