SEOUL, Nov. 17 (Korea Bizwire) — Samsung Electronics Co. is planning to introduce a new human resources system that includes expanding absolute performance assessment and peer review.
The tech giant held a seminar on Tuesday to brief management on the new human resources system, industry sources said.
The current performance assessment for managers at Samsung comes in five grades: EX (Excellent), VG (Very Good), GD (Good), NI (Need Improvement), and UN (Unsatisfactory).
The top 10 percent of managers are offered the highest grade of EX. The next highest grade of VG is given to the top 25 percent.
Others mostly receive GD or NI. Underperformers receive the UN grade.
The assessment data is used as a basis for the following year’s annual raise and promotion.
Samsung decided to repeal the 25 percent limit for the VG grade while maintaining the top 10 percent limit for the EX grade.
Aside from the top 10 percent, management will be subject to an absolute performance assessment.
Samsung will also introduce peer review to add to the current system of superiors evaluating their staff, diversifying modes of assessment.
