SEOUL, Feb. 1 (Korea Bizwire) – South Korea will introduce intensive security checks for rail transportation during the PyeongChang Winter Olympics and provide extra trains for the convenience of Olympic visitors, the transport ministry said Thursday.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport will step up screening at eight train stations that link the Olympic venues of PyeongChang and Gangneung with Incheon International Airport and downtown Seoul during the Feb. 9-25 Olympic Games.
Police will patrol the facilities with sniffer dogs and strengthen inspections of passenger cars to prevent any possible crimes on the trains.
At the same time, 12 extra trains will be added to the timetable between Seoul and the Olympic towns during the period for the convenience of nighttime passengers.
“We will do our best to operate trains safely and on time in a way that supports the successful Winter Olympics,” the ministry said in a release.
