SEOUL, Dec. 27 (Korea Bizwire) — The central administrative city of Sejong will launch a pilot program in January in which households can drop waste medicines into mailboxes and postal workers will safely bring them to incineration sites, officials said Monday.
To launch the waste medicine collection service, the city government signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Ministry of Environment, Korea Post, the Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service and the Sejong Pharmacists Association.
If households place expired or spoiled medicines into mailing envelopes and then drop them into nearby mailboxes, postal workers will collect and transport them to incineration sites.
The dedicated envelopes will be distributed to drugstores across the city starting next month, and the locations of the mailboxes can be searched through the ePost service.
Korea Post plans to expand the service throughout the country on a gradual basis.
