SEOUL, Dec. 1 (Korea Bizwire) — The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that it has developed the nation’s first industrial site safety designs that can be distinguished by individuals with color vision deficiency (CVD).
At present, there are many cases where the safety colors used at industrial sites include red (prohibition) and green (guide), which cannot be distinguished by those with CVD.
Against this backdrop, the city government selected safety colors that can be distinguished by those with CVD and created pictograms and safety signs using such safety colors.
The safety colors were selected based on the advice of professionals in the areas of color tones, color psychology, design, and legal affairs and confirmed through tests involving individuals with CVD.
To apply and realize the safety colors, the city government signed a memorandum of understanding with paint maker Noroo Paint & Coatings Co. in October.
Moreover, it also developed a string of new pictogram designs needed for industrial sites, including “prohibition of smartphone use,” and improved existing difficult-to-understand guide signs to have easily distinguishable intuitive designs.
