SEOUL, April 17 (Korea Bizwire)The number of installations of service marketplace applications that enable users to find and offer various services has surged in recent years.

According to the report released by industry tracker WiseApp, the number of service marketplace app installations stood at 1 million in January 2019 and has been on a steady increase since then, reaching approximately 8.3 million in January of last year.

By app type, Soomgo has seen its average number of users rise by about five times over the past four years, making it the most popular app.

Each service marketplace app offers different types of services.

For instance, Soomgo mainly provides lifestyle services such as private lessons, cleaning, and moving, while Kmong is specialized in professional freelance services such as translation.

Class 101 focuses mainly on lecture content from influencers or entertainers in areas like digital crafts and investment.

Some IT observers predict that a significant range of services, such as document creation and art, that are traded through these platforms will compete with generative artificial intelligence (AI) services like ChatGPT.

As generative AI can perform intellectual jobs much faster and more accurately than humans, only activities that can be physically performed by humans, such as cleaning, moving, and electrical work, will continue to be popular.
