SEOUL, Jan. 3 (Korea Bizwire)SK hynix Inc., the world’s second-largest maker of memory chips, said Wednesday it will showcase its ultra-high-performance memory technology, the key to future artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, at the upcoming CES 2024.

Under the banner of future vision, named “Memory Centric,” where memory products play a pivotal role in ICT devices, SK hynix’s signature high bandwidth memory (HBM) products, including the latest HBM3E, will be presented at the annual U.S. tech show taking place at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Las Vegas, from Jan. 9-12.

The HBM3E chips, recognized as the world’s best-performing memory product, were developed by SK hynix in August last year. The South Korean chipmaker will start mass production of HBM3E from the first half of 2024.

At SK Group’s joint pavilion designed with an amusement park concept, SK hynix will run an AI fortuneteller, powered by its HBM3E semiconductor, which will give cartoon images of visitors by turning their photographs into drawings and provide them with personalized New Year’s fortune.

SK hynix said it will also display its AI technologies, including the Compute Express Link (CXL), next-generation interface, and a test product of Computational Memory Solution, memory solution that integrates the computational functions of CXL, at a separate space managed by other SK companies during CES 2024.

“We are thrilled to showcase our technology, which has risen to the core of the AI infrastructure in the U.S., home to AI technology,” President Kim Juseon, head of AI Infra, said in a statement. “SK hynix will step up its efforts for collaboration with global players, while seeking to accelerate a turnaround in business with its leadership in the AI memory space.”

Last month, SK hynix set up the new AI Infra unit, charged with AI chip-related business, as part of its strategy to focus more on the high-demand premium chips.

The move came as recovering demand for high-performance products, like its AI memory HBM3 chips, has contributed to narrowing its operating deficit in the third quarter.

The company posted operating losses of 1.79 trillion won (US$1.32 billion) for the fourth consecutive quarter in the third quarter, compared with a profit of 1.67 trillion won a year ago, due to the protracted economic slowdown.
