SEOUL, Korea, May 2, 2014 (Korea Bizwire) — SK Telecom said on May 1 that it has launched four types of Bluetooth low energy (BLE) solutions and “Wizturn,” a service development platform. BLE beacons are small, low-power Bluetooth transmitters that repeatedly broadcast their presence to other nearby Bluetooth devices.
The beacons are suited to organizations that want to track customer movements in a venue, or broadcast targeted messages to customers in a particular location. The four BLE beacons can be applicable in a wide variety of locations depending on environment and foot traffic.
Wizturn that came out with the BLE products is an indoor location platform that can help developers create different apps such as 3D indoor maps and navigator apps more easily and more quickly. Anyone interested in partnership or purchasing related to the beacons and Wizturn can contact the company through its website at www.wizturnhub.com.
In March this year, SK Telecom installed the world’s first BLE beacons at the Seoul National University Bundang Hospital and is running the beacons to provide round-the-clock information and navigation guides to the hospital’s 6,000 daily patient visitors.
Beginning last month, the company also kick-started a beacon-based service at Jamshil Students’ Gymnasium, the home of the SK Knights, a professional basketball club in the Korean Basketball League.
In partnership with SK Planet, it will soon offer services in OK Cashbag and Smart Wallet-affiliated stores so that the customers in these stores can get a variety of promotional information and on-site e-coupons.
