SEOUL, Aug. 22 (Korea Bizwire) – Samsung Display and LG Display, two of South Korea’s leading technology companies, are unveiling an array of next-generation display technologies at the 24th International Meeting on Information Display (IMID), held from August 21 to 23 at the Jeju International Convention Center.
IMID, South Korea’s largest display conference, annually attracts around 2,000 experts in the field.
Samsung Display is featuring its groundbreaking “stretchable display” technology, which can be freely deformed and return to its original shape. This display, incorporating micro-LED technology, boasts the highest resolution and stretch ratio among previously announced products.
It can expand up to 1.25 times its original size (25% stretch ratio) while maintaining a 120 PPI (pixels per inch) resolution, comparable to gaming monitors.
The company is also exhibiting its 31.5-inch UHD QD-OLED monitor, which began mass production late last year. With a pixel density of 140 PPI, the highest among current self-emitting monitors, this product has been awarded IMID’s newly established “Display of the Year” honor.
Other Samsung innovations on display include a QD-LED with RGB pixels composed of quantum dots, an industry-first 12,000-nit ultra-high brightness white OLED on silicon (OLEDoS), and an ultra-thin IT panel with a 1Hz variable refresh rate.
LG Display is showcasing its META Technology 2.0, praised for surpassing previous OLED quality limits. This technology combines 42.4 billion ultra-fine lens patterns (MLA+) with brightness optimization algorithm META Multi Booster and image quality enhancement algorithm Detail Enhancer.
LG Display’s TV and gaming OLED panels featuring this technology have also received the “Display of the Year” award.
The company’s exhibit includes these award-winning panels, along with vehicle displays optimized for software-defined vehicles (SDV), and ultra-high brightness OLEDoS for virtual reality (VR) and smartwatches.
In addition to the exhibitions, Samsung Display plans to present about 70 papers at IMID, the most among participating companies, focusing on next-generation technologies such as micro-LED and artificial intelligence.
LG Display will present about 30 papers on topics including OLED performance improvement and manufacturing innovation through AI and machine learning.
