SEOUL, May 11 (Korea Bizwire) – Books about the newly elected president of South Korea are selling like hotcakes, with sales of some books up fourfold as public interest in Moon Jae-in is peaking after he was sworn into office yesterday.
Among the books, Mon’s autobiography “The Fate of Moon Jae-in” is proving particularly popular, with book retailers such as Yes24 reporting a surge in sales in the aftermath of the presidential election on Tuesday.
Other books about the newly elected president, including his edition of the children’s book series “Who? Special” have also seen sales increases compared to the last couple of days in the run-up to the election.
Against this backdrop, major bookstores including Kyobo Book Centre are putting together a special display of books about Moon in their stores, including the latest issue of the Asian edition of Time magazine, the cover of which was adorned by the South Korean president with the nickname “the negotiator”.
Both Kyobo Book Centre and Yes24 saw the latest edition of Time sell out within hours when the magazine first went on sale last Saturday, with more copies scheduled to be released today.
“As online sales of Moon’s books including ‘The fate of Moon Jae-in’ are fast increasing, we expect sales of other books about him to accelerate too,” an official at the Kyobo Book Centre said.
