SEOUL, May 29 (Korea Bizwire)SPC Samlip Co., a confectionery unit under SPC Group, said Thursday it will discontinue its popular “KBO Bread” line following a fatal accident at one of its factories.

“After consultation with the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO), the production of KBO Bread will be halted,” the company said in a statement posted on its website. “We will do our utmost to strengthen safety measures and restore customer confidence.”

The decision came after a female worker died after her upper body was caught in a conveyor belt during lubrication work at the company’s factory in Siheung, some 30 kilometers southwest of Seoul, on May 19.

Operations at the facility have been suspended since the incident.

KBO Bread was manufactured at the Siheung plant.

Launched in late March, the product quickly became a bestseller, selling over 10 million units in just 41 days.

Each pack includes photo stickers of KBO players, sparking a craze among baseball fans.
