SEOUL, Jan. 19 (Korea Bizwire) – South Korea’s star speed skater Lee Sang-wha will train in Germany in preparation for her bid for a third consecutive Olympic title at PyeongChang next month, the sport’s governing body said Friday.
Lee, who has won the past two Olympic titles in women’s 500-meter speed skating, will depart for Germany on Monday and train with Canadian Kevin Crockett, the former coach of the South Korean speed skaters during the 2014 Sochi Olympics, according to the Korea Skating Union (KSU).
Since wrapping up the International Skating Union (ISU) World Cup season, the 28-year old veteran has been working at the National Training Center in Seoul with her teammates.
After weeks of training in Germany, Lee will return to South Korea and check into the athletes’ village on Feb. 6, the KSU said.
The Olympics start on Feb. 9, and Lee’s 500m race is scheduled for Feb. 18.
