SEOUL, March 12 (Korea Bizwire) — TikTok, the popular short-form video platform, is making headlines again, this time in South Korea. Despite facing an exit crisis in the U.S. market due to security threats, TikTok has been chosen as the official platform for a major exhibition in Korea.
According to media reports, the Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association (KAMA) has signed a business agreement with TikTok Korea to host the Seoul Mobility Show. The show, which will open at KINTEX in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province on March 31, will be broadcasted in real-time on TikTok, making it the first official industry event to be featured on the platform.
The agreement was aimed at expanding the global content of the Seoul Mobility Show and reaching the MZ generation by reflecting the convergence trend between exhibitions and IT. The KAMA plans to release differentiated short-form content using TikTok and various on-site events will also be prepared for MZ generation visitors, including TikTok proof-shot events.
However, TikTok’s Chinese parent company,ByteDance, is facing security concerns in the U.S. market. A bipartisan bill has been proposed in the U.S. Senate to ban the use of TikTok due to its suspected provision of personal information to the Chinese government.
Despite these concerns, TikTok Korea signed the agreement with the KAMA, and TikTok’s general manager in Korea, Jung Jae-hoon, expressed his excitement about contributing to the successful hosting of Korea’s representative mobility exhibition with TikTok creators. “We hope that the auto industry and related cutting-edge technologies will be widely known to the global community through the creative content of TikTok creators,” said Jung.
