SEOUL, Feb. 7 (Korea Bizwire) – In Seoul’s Seocho District, a large building has become the center of an unsettling issue, with adult diapers filled with feces being repeatedly discarded in the restrooms. A notice was posted in the building on February 6, bringing this matter to the attention of the occupants and requesting their cooperation.
The management office of the building has observed an alarming frequency of such incidents, stating in the notice, “There have been numerous instances where adult diapers encasing feces are being thrown away in the building’s restrooms.”
The notice emphasized that this behavior is unacceptable in communal areas and urged an immediate cessation of such acts. It further warned that if such behavior continues, management will resort to using CCTV footage to identify the perpetrator and, if malice is detected, take legal action by reporting the individual to the relevant authorities.
The notice concluded with a plea for consideration towards the health and well-being of the majority of the residents, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a clean and hygienic environment within the building.
This incident is not isolated. Last August, an individual who runs a chicken restaurant shared a distressing experience in an online community for small business owners. The post described how a group of customers left behind a mess, including baby diapers, after being accommodated for their children’s play.
Furthermore, last March, a delivery worker for the retail company Coupang highlighted a troubling trend of customers placing feces-filled diapers in the company’s “Fresh Bag” recycling bags. The worker expressed frustration over the disregard for the bags’ intended use and the additional strain it places on workers who are already under pressure to meet strict delivery schedules.
Illegal disposal of household waste in public places can result in fines under the Waste Management Law, ranging from 50,000 won for minor littering to up to 1 million won for waste generated from business activities.
However, identifying the individual responsible for the improper disposal of adult diapers in this case may prove challenging due to the nature of the location and the anonymity provided by public restrooms.
