SEOUL, Dec. 15 (Korea Bizwire) — South Korean civic group Voluntary Agency Network of Korea (VANK) said Wednesday it had launched a website to promote “Jikji,” the world’s oldest existing metal-printed book, in the Italian language.
The website provides an introduction to Jikji, South Korea’s cultural heritage, heroes of South Korea, Jikji in school curricula around the world, educational material for Jikji and Jikji-related videos.
“The website has been designed to promote South Korean history and culture for Italy and Italian-speaking foreigners,” VANK President Park Ki-tae said.
Jikji was printed 78 years ahead of Johannes Gutenberg’s “42-Line Bible,” the earliest existing work of metal movable type printing in Europe which was published in 1452-1455.
