SEOUL, Dec. 9 (Korea Bizwire) – The global standard for ultra-fast fifth-generation (5G) mobile networks, which is being developed by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), includes KT Corp.’s homegrown network management technology, the company said Friday.
The decision to include KT’s technology in the 5G standard was made at a meeting of the ITU in Geneva earlier this week, the company said.
The KT technology enables mobile carriers to manage both fixed-line and wireless networks in one continuous cycle, KT said.
The technology was introduced at the fifth meeting of the Focus Group IMT-2020 in March this year.
After six months of deliberations by the ITU’s 193 member states, the technology will be announced in 2017, KT said.
The 5G technology aims to offer data transmission speeds about 100 times faster than the current fourth-generation wireless networks.
