SEOUL, Dec. 23 (Korea Bizwire)Controversy sparked over a profile picture of South Korean football star Son Heung-min posted on Japan’s largest internet portal.

Online football forums criticized the profile picture of Son posted on Yahoo Japan.

Yahoo Japan’s profile of the Tottenham Hotspur’s attacking ace includes a picture of him tackling Everton’s Andre Gomes during a match last month.

Clicking on the picture leads to a news article talking about the controversial tackle.

The name Son Heung-min has also been written incorrectly in Chinese characters.

On the profile, Son Heung-min’s ‘min’ is written in a Chinese character that means ‘the people’, which actually should be written in a different Chinese character that means ‘intelligent’.

Searching for Son Heung-min in Korean, Chinese, and English delivers the same result with the wrong Chinese character.

The football community in South Korea is questioning Yahoo Japan’s intent over deliberately choosing to use an image of Son tackling as his profile picture, and using wrong Chinese characters to describe his name.

“It only seems as a way to mock him,” said one football fan.
