SEOUL, Dec. 27 (Korea Bizwire) — President Yoon Suk Yeol has appointed a legal defense team to handle his impeachment trial and investigations related to his brief imposition of martial law, his representatives said Friday.
Bae Bo-yoon, a former Constitutional Court scholar who worked as a court spokesperson during the impeachment trial of former President Park Geun-hye, was appointed to handle the trial, along with Yun Gap-geun, former chief of the Daegu High Prosecutors Office, and Bae Jin-han, a former judge and Yoon’s former classmate at Seoul National University School of Law.
The lawyers will submit a notice of appointment and attend the first preparatory hearing of the trial later in the day.
Meanwhile, Kim Hong-il, former head of the Korea Communications Commission, was appointed to handle the investigations related to charges that Yoon incited an insurrection and abused his power when he declared martial law on Dec. 3.
Yun will be in charge of communications for both the trial and investigations.
