SEOUL, June 7 (Korea Bizwire) — Recently hatched baby toads began a mass migration from Mongwol Pond, Korea’s largest spawning ground for toads, to their nearby habitat at Uksu Stream, on June 5, in Daegu. According to Suseong District officials, about 1,000 baby toads were seen taking part in the exodus. It was a day with 4mm of rain and an average temperature of 17.7 ℃, which represented perfect conditions for baby toads to travel.
The district office said that about 3,000 baby toads, 90 percent of baby toads at the pond, have already moved to the stream this year. About 2 to 3 million tadpoles hatch every year at the pond from the middle of May to June, and only 0.1 percent of them survive, according to the district.
