SEOUL, Feb. 7 (Korea Bizwire) – The leaders of Germany, Poland and Finland will become honorary citizens of Seoul when they visit South Korea to attend the PyeongChang Winter Olympics this week, city officials said Wednesday.
Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon plans to award the honorary citizenships when he meets with Polish President Andrzej Duda on Thursday, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier on Friday and Finnish Prime Minister Juha Sipila on Feb. 19, the officials said.
Park plans to use the meetings to discuss ways to increase exchanges and friendship with the countries.
He will also meet Cai Qi, secretary of China’s Communist Party and president of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2022 Winter Olympics, to discuss cooperation between the two capitals, which mark the 25th anniversary of friendship ties this year.
Other foreign dignitaries Park will meet on the sidelines of the Olympics include the mayors of Istanbul, Tashkent and Ulaanbaatar,
The Seoul government has invited 61 dignitaries from 16 foreign cities with friendship links with Seoul to the Feb. 9-25 Olympics.
