The environment ministry is also launching a social media event where people who take pictures of the revamped drains and share them online will be given special souvenirs including hot water bottles and eco-friendly bags.

In addition, the Environmental Preservation Association will hand out special animal stickers at a number of elementary school and middle schools in Seoul for students to stick around the redesigned drains.

“Many of the storm drains, despite their original purpose, have been covered with cigarette butts and trash. With the help of art, we hope to remind people of the meaning and importance of environmental protection,” said Yang Won-ho, a media official at the Ministry of Environment.
