SEOUL, June 1 (Korea Bizwire)The Ministry of Interior and Safety will use big data on complaints related to mosquitoes, cockroaches and other pests to analyse them in tandem with Seoul’s Gwangjin District and reflect the results in pest control policies.

The district office will offer the data on the number of pest-related complaints received, building registers, and population data while the ministry will combine them with a list of local businesses and weather information to conduct the analysis.

The area of analysis has been divided into smaller zones of 100 square meters each to estimate each zone’s likelihood of a pest-related complaint, which showed that weather information such as temperature and precipitation, and the durability of buildings influence the likelihood of a pest-related complaint.

There were 62.5 percent fewer pest-related complaints in residential areas with pest repellent measures employed than those without.

Gwangjin District plans to use these results to come up with effective pest control policies.
