SEOUL, June 27 (Korea Bizwire)The special counsel investigating former President Yoon Suk Yeol’s martial law bid insisted Friday that he appear for questioning this weekend through the main entrance, not via the underground parking.

Park Ji-young, a deputy to Special Prosecutor Cho Eun-suk, told reporters Yoon has repeatedly delivered his intention to use the underground parking in order to appear in private at Cho’s office at 10 a.m. Saturday.

“Our position is that we hope not to see a situation that can count as noncompliance” with the summons, she said during a press briefing.

“We will not count it as an appearance if he does not enter through the main entrance and waits in the underground parking lot,” she added.

Earlier this week, Cho’s team demanded that Yoon appear in public at its office in the Seoul High Prosecutors Office in southern Seoul at 9 a.m. Saturday to be questioned about charges related to the Dec. 3 martial law imposition after a court rejected its detention warrant request for him.

But Yoon’s lawyers requested that his appearance at the special counsel’s office not be made public and be delayed about an hour to around 10 a.m. Specifically, they demanded that Yoon enter the office through its underground parking lot. Cho’s office rejected Yoon’s request Thursday, saying it can be seen as preferential treatment.

In response, Yoon’s side had suggested Friday morning that he would withdraw his demand.

“Even if there is no agreement regarding the method of appearance, there is no change in Yoon’s decision to appear (at the special counsel’s office) tomorrow,” a lawyer for Yoon told Yonhap News Agency by phone. “We’ll go there tomorrow and discuss it again on the site.”
