ULSAN, Jan. 3 (Korea Bizwire) – Plans are in the works for a 1km-long zipline over the Taewha River in Ulsan, as the city looks to take advantage of the publicity generated if a park on the river, Taewhagang Grand Park, is designated as South Korea’s second national garden.
Ulsan mayor Kim Ki-hyun said in a press conference yesterday, “Should Taewhagang Grand Park be named the second national garden, the Taewha River will become more widely known, and people’s perception of it should change accordingly. With the aim of increasing the number of attractions and amusements in the area to boost local tourism, a zipline will be installed where there will be no negative impact on the environment.”
The starting point is the peak of the 120m tall Namsan mountain. Zipliners will cross over the Taehwa River before landing in the Taewhagang Grand Park. While crossing, these individuals will be able to take in a view of the Taehwa River, the Grand Park and the city of Ulsan.
The application for national garden status is to be submitted to the Korea Forest Service in the first half of this year. Suncheon Bay is the only national reserve currently designated as a national garden.
