SEOUL, Dec. 24 (Korea Bizwire) – SsangYong Motor’s Tivoli DKR has successfully completed the notorious Dakar Rally, the manufacturer said on Tuesday.
The Dakar Rally, known colloquially as “the race from hell”, is famous for its brutal conditions and harrowing racing schedule, leaving many participants with injuries and accidents.
Against the odds, the Tivoli DKR, which is a remodeled version of SsangYong’s Tivoli mini SUV, covered nearly 9,000 kilometers for the 2018 Dakar Rally, from Lima, Peru, to La Paz, Bolivia, before making it to the final destination in Córdoba, Spain.
The remodeled vehicle competed in a total of 14 legs of this year’s race, half of which consisted of sand dunes and deserts.
Of the 92 teams that participated in the race, only 43 teams made it to the finish.
“In the ‘race from hell’ that we participated in after nine years, we were able to complete without an accident, reaffirming SsangYong’s outstanding technology,” said Choi Johng-sik, the CEO of SsangYong Motor.
