BUSAN, Apr. 24 (Korea Bizwire)A recent study has confirmed that the color green reduces eye stress and improves eyesight.

A research team led by Prof. Choi Cheol-young from the Korea Maritime and Ocean University conducted an experiment involving applying a variety of spectrums of LED light on maritime animals, which showed that green light waves prevent the destruction of the retinal cells in the eyes of the fish and help damaged retinal cells recover.

The team showed that the concentration level of active oxygen, a stress agent, was 57 percent lower among goldfish exposed to green light waves for four weeks than others that were not.

The number of retinal cells destroyed by active oxygen and other harmful external factors also dropped significantly.

In contrast, blue light waves stimulated the generation of active oxygen, causing stress as well as destroying a massive quantity of retinal cells in the goldfish.

Blue light waves are emitted from smartphones, straining the human retina, while green light waves are so beneficial to the eye that they are used in color therapy.

Many aquariums use blue light for aquatic scenery which, the research team warned, can impose severe stress on the fish’s eyes.

“Green light will open up new opportunities for humans to free themselves from chronic stress in the eye caused by light pollution,” said Choi.
