SEOUL, Jun. 14 (Korea Bizwire) — Samsung Welstory Inc., a South Korean catering company affiliated with Samsung Group, held the 5th ‘Welstoryad,’ a cooking contest, at Let’s Run Park in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi Province on Wednesday.
Welstoryad is one of South Korea’s largest food contests where chefs and nutritionists working at some 700 Samsung Welstory offices in South Korea, China, and Vietnam compete to create new recipes.
Fusion cuisines that combine various Southeast Asian elements were most popular among 100 dishes showcased at the contest.
The ‘mala’ cuisines that use a spicy, numbing Chinese sauce, recently popular among young South Koreans, also appeared at the contest.
“The recent craze over Southeast Asian food is beginning to impact the catering industry,” said Samsung Welstory.
“Among all dishes introduced at the contest, 31 percent of them were Chinese mala, Vietnamese bun cha, Thai pad thai, and other Southeast Asian fusion cuisines.”
