JEJU, Jan. 16 (Korea Bizwire) — Jeju provincial government has sent out letters asking affiliated departments and agencies to refrain from flying balloons during festivals.
Balloons flown at festivals usually end up in the ocean.
There have been rising concerns that fish and birds might die from choking on balloons after mistaking them as food, or get hurt after the balloons cling onto their bodies.
The animal rights group Korea Animal Rights Advocates (KARA) recently criticized organizers on social media after balloons were flown at Seoubong Beach in Jeju City on January 1.
