DAEJEON, Feb. 6 (Korea Bizwire) — A joint research team from the Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine and Dongshin University College of Korean Medicine has developed a new method to identify fake medical herbs using artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
Fake medical herbs are difficult to be identified unless there are professionals involved.
The team used deep learning technology to study hundreds of photos of medical herbs, and tested its capability to discern them.
The program was able to sort out fake medical herbs with 99.4 percent accuracy, higher than the 94.8 percent demonstrated by a professional in herbal medicine.
This new technology is expected to prevent accidents in which unauthentic herbs are used.
