SEOUL, Feb. 25 (Korea Bizwire)A month has passed since the first confirmed coronavirus patient in South Korea, but several police stations and substations are still struggling to purchase thermometers due to spiking demand.

The National Police Agency disbursed funds to local offices on Feb. 11 to purchase a non-contact thermometer for each patrol car.

However, several stations are experiencing delays in making the purchase.

“We have been contacting local manufacturers and distributors to purchase thermometers, but they weren’t able to supply us with the product due to the increase in demand,” said a source familiar with the police agency.

With the coronavirus outbreak spreading rapidly in South Korean communities, police stations, serving as the primary contact with local residents, should be properly equipped to monitor and address epidemic situations, experts have argued.
