SEOUL, Aug. 27 (Korea Bizwire) — An increasing number of South Koreans are using mobile wiring services to send cash gifts as the second wave of the coronavirus is preventing South Koreans from holding wedding ceremonies and other events offline.
KakaoPay, a mobile payment service integrated with KakaoTalk, South Korea’s No. 1 messenger app, reported a threefold increase in the number of people using its money gift wiring service over the past couple of weeks.
The service allows users to send money gifts to the recipient with a letter, without having to disclose how much money is being sent.
South Koreans also sent 35 percent more so-called ‘condolence money’ via the mobile service last week, adding to the 10 percent increase in KakaoPay’s total wiring service usage during the same period.
