SEOUL, Nov. 9 (Korea Bizwire) — A new amendment will ban plastic straws that come with a purchased beverage in South Korea.
The Ministry of Environment said that attaching unnecessary accessories not only causes difficulties in the recycling process, but is also a waste of resources.
The amendment recommends the use of recyclable packaging materials, non-synthetic resin tape or bubbles wrap and ice packs containing non-super absorbency refrigerants.
The amendment also bans attaching aluminum foil or vinyl materials onto packaging as well as plastic straws on beverage products.
In reaction, some consumers are questioning the hygiene of the new measure, complaining that it may also cause unnecessary inconvenience for both children and adult consumers.
