National Museum to Rent Out Artwork to Culturally Remote Places

SEOUL, Nov. 20 (Korea Bizwire)South Korea’s National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA) announced Thursday that it will hold free exhibitions in three locations throughout the country, taking masterpieces owned by the museum to areas that suffer from a lack of access to cultural content.

An elementary and middle school in North Gyeongsang Province, the only region without a national art museum, will be temporarily offered artworks related to the school curriculum.

An Air Force base in South Gyeongsang Province will also be offered artworks for exhibition.

This program that will temporarily send out some 30 artworks owned by the MMCA will begin next Monday, and continue for the next 12 months.

Upon completion of the program, it will be considered for nationwide expansion. All costs including insurance fees, delivery, installation and retrieval will be borne by the museum.

MMCA’s Art Bank was established in 2005, and currently owns some 3,800 artworks including sculptures, paintings, installations, and photos.
