SEOUL, Nov. 30 (Korea Bizwire) — A growing share of the MZ generation, a combination of the millennials and Generation Z, are engaging in sports activities previously popular among older Koreans such as golf, hiking, and camping.
An increasing number of posts on Instagram and other social networking platforms have shown that the younger generation is more interested in these pastimes, which have traditionally been popular among seniors.
This cultural shift is resulting in increasing consumption of sports equipment.
A major online shopping mall Gmarket’s sales report for the first two quarters this year showed that golf, hiking, and camping gear sales among those in their 20s and the 30s was 24 percent higher than last year.
Among those in their 40s and 50s, sales jumped by only 13 percent.
“The younger generation is choosing to engage in hiking, golf, and camping since they are relatively less risky when it comes to coronavirus infection,” Gmarket explained.
