CHEONAN, March 12 (Korea Bizwire) — A drone is seen climbing through the air carrying a hose, spraying water at the site of a fire 15 meters up in a building.
South Chungcheong Province and the Chungcheong Fire Service Academy carried out a successful demonstration of a firefighting drone on the training grounds of the National Fire Service Academy in Cheonan, 164 kilometers south of Seoul.
The demonstration took place to monitor the drone’s ability to climb carrying a water-filled hose, and withstand the pressure coming from the water spray.
The drone, carrying a specially designed light-weight hose, climbed 25 meters above ground, successfully spraying water over a 20-meter distance for five minutes as it withstood 10 kilograms per square centimetre of water pressure.
Prior to the demonstration, the Chungcheong Fire Service Academy and Hoseo University developed a special fire nozzle that can be mounted on a commercial drone with 25 kilograms of take-off weight and a lift capacity of 15 kilograms to be used in the training.
