SEOUL, June 22 (Korea Bizwire)South Korea plans to develop artificial intelligence (AI)-based pilots by 2023, a state-run defense development agency said.

The AI Pilot Development Program will use deep learning technology featured in Heron, a military drone used by the Israeli armed forces.

These AI pilots will be able to assist human pilots in carrying out highly difficult combat missions, according to the Agency for Defense Development (ADD).

The ADD is also developing an AI technology that can detect movements of transporter erector launchers (TEL) in North Korea, as well as tiny AI devices for quick application to weapon systems.

Tiny AI uses smaller amounts of data to carry out tasks normally completed by AI using big data technology.
