SEOUL, Oct. 22 (Korea Bizwire) – Samsung Electronics will compensate all victims related to leukemia and other occupational diseases as long as they are qualified under certain standards. The company said this on October 21 on its official blog “Samsung Tomorrow” in a message titled “Ahead of the founding of the dispute mediation committee.”
Samsung continued, “We have made clear our stance on the issue in several occasions before. But SHARPS [Supporters for the Health and Rights of People in the Semiconductor Industry] is confusing the victims’ families by spreading false rumors that we would compensate those who are on the negotiating table only.”
As for the dispute mediation committee to be set sail, the Samsung blog commented, “SHARPS is trying to muddy the water by arguing the committee was created single-handedly by Samsung, which is far from the truth.” It further said, “We accepted the proposal made by the Response Committee for the Families of Samsung Occupational Disease Victims who took the pain to keep the negotiations open.” The response committee was formed by six families of former Samsung employees independent of SHARPS.
