SEOUL, March 29 (Korea Bizwire) — The number of applications for the installation of standard electric vehicle (EV) chargers at apartment complexes and workplaces is increasing.
Starting in January, the Ministry of Environment has been accepting applications for the installation of common use standard EV chargers directly from the owners and operators of apartments, workplaces and parking lots.
Previously, only private charging businesses were qualified to submit these types of applications.
According to the ministry, 10,361 applications for the installation of standard EV chargers had been received as of March 23.
By region, the greater Seoul area accounted for about a half of the applications, with 7-kilowatt chargers the most popular request (9,408 units).
The number of chargers installed as of late last month totaled 220,573 units, including 198,169 standard EV chargers and 22,404 rapid chargers.
The ministry plans to develop and release an App Card Wallet that makes it possible to use EV chargers without the need to carry membership cards in the latter half of this year.
