SEOUL, April 11 (Korea Bizwire) — South Koreans in their 20s and 30s prioritize their personal lives rather than monthly wages and retirement security at work, a survey showed Monday.
The Federation of Korean Industries conducted a survey of 827 South Koreans in their 20s and 30s, 36.6 percent of whom preferred to work at companies that guarantee a work-life balance.
They were followed by those who preferred businesses with good pay and bonuses (29.6 percent), businesses with retirement security and a stable working environment (16.3 percent), and businesses with opportunities for growth of both individuals and the business (10.4 percent).
A majority of respondents preferred to work with management that likes to engage and communicate (77.9 percent).
Another 13.9 percent preferred management that makes quick decisions based on strong charisma, while 8.2 percent wanted management to distribute/delegate authority to employees, creating a more autonomous working environment.
As for the factors deemed essential for the reputation of the company, respondents picked strong engagement between management and employees (37.2 percent), followed by robust investment and job creation (29.7 percent), production of quality products and services (24.7 percent), and achieving environmental, social, and governance (ESG) objectives (5.7 percent).
