SEOUL, April 28 (Korea Bizwire)A ‘blue hydrogen’ production facility has been established in the southeastern city of Changwon, the first of its kind in South Korea.

Blue hydrogen is produced from natural gas, but emissions are eliminated by capturing and storing the emitted carbon.

The Ministry of Environment and the Changwon city government On Thursday held a completion ceremony for the carbon dioxide capture and utilization facility.

The new facility can capture up to 8 tons of carbon dioxide generated when the hydrogen charging station produces 1 ton of hydrogen using natural gas, and then store and supply it in a liquid state.

The hydrogen in liquid state has various purposes, such as water purification, carbon dioxide welding and fire-extinguishing material, dry ice and carbonated drink ingredient, polycarbonate, and polyurethane.

The city government plans to send the captured carbon dioxide during the hydrogen production process to its water purification plant and use it as a coagulant aid to treat the floating material in the source water.

The carbon dioxide injected into the source water is neutralized and does not emit greenhouse gases, thus contributing to carbon neutrality.
