SEOUL, May 17 (Korea Bizwire) — A research project has commenced to investigate the feasibility of supplying households with hydrogen blended gas through city gas pipelines.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy on Tuesday announced its plans to conduct an R&D project, investing 28 billion won (US$20 million), with the goal of supplying hydrogen blended gas until 2026.
As part of this project, the ministry will assess the safety and functionality of household boilers, gas stoves, and other gas facilities when hydrogen is blended at a maximum ratio of 20 percent in the gas distributed through city pipelines.
Additionally, it will establish safety standards governing the production, supply, and utilization phases of hydrogen blended gas.
To address various issues related to the distribution of hydrogen blended gas through city pipelines, the ministry organized a seminar in collaboration with the state-run gas company Korea Gas Corp. (KOGAS) and relevant expert organizations.
According to the ministry, the utilization of city gas pipelines to deliver hydrogen to each household will not only reduce carbon emissions but also yield the advantages of creating an extensive hydrogen distribution network.
