SEOUL, Nov. 1 (Korea Bizwire) – The contemporary dance performance ‘Zzz’ welcomes audience members who may fall asleep or snore during the show. Choreographed by Hwang Soo-hyun, the dance performance will take place at QUAD, a public theater operated by the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture, from October 31 to November 22. ‘Zzz’ is a unique contemporary dance performance centered around the theme of sleep.

Throughout the three-hour performance, the audience is free to sleep at their convenience. ‘Zzz’ is a new dance performance by choreographer Hwang Soo-hyun, known for exploring unusual physical experiences and new sensations in works like ‘Black Feeling’ and ‘CAVEAE.’ With this performance, she sheds light on the often-overlooked importance of sleep for human beings.

To create a more relaxed atmosphere in the theater, a space usually associated with focused observation, longer performance hours have been established. Hwang commented, “After the COVID-19 pandemic, I noticed that the social atmosphere has become more rigid and inflexible. This tension is palpable even within theaters. There’s an unspoken taboo against the audience falling asleep. In light of this, I believe it’s worthwhile to offer a new experience where the audience can unwind in the theater.”

‘Zzz’ transforms the typical performance venue. Instead of uncomfortable chairs, the spacious performance hall is covered with comfortable mats. At the theater entrance, attendees are required to remove their shoes and are then provided with cushions and blankets, allowing them to choose their seating anywhere on the floor.

Warm-colored lighting suffuses the performance hall, creating a comfortable ambiance even before the performance begins. By immersing themselves in the dreamlike background music, the audience can naturally drift into slumber.
