HONGKONG, Nov. 19 (Korea Bizwire) – The inaugural “K-Drama OST Concert,” showcasing the soundtracks of beloved Hallyu dramas, made its international debut in Hong Kong last Saturday, captivating Hallyu enthusiasts in the region.
Presented by the Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong and generously sponsored by the Hong Kong government, the event unfolded at the Hong Kong Cultural Center in Tsim Sha Tsui, drawing a crowd of approximately 2,500 attendees.
The performance, orchestrated by the M.O.S.T Orchestra renowned for its expertise in drama music, marked the ensemble’s inaugural overseas appearance, following a successful run on various Korean stages since 2019.
The concert commenced with a mesmerizing display of scenes from “My Love from the Star” on a large screen behind the stage, prompting audible gasps from the audience as the M.O.S.T Orchestra commenced their performance.
The program continued with a captivating medley of OSTs from popular dramas, including “Crash Landing on You,” “Mr. Sunshine,” “Squid Game,” “Love in the Moonlight,” “Hwang Jini,” “Dae Jang Geum,” “The World of the Married,” and “Behind the White Tower.” This musical journey through the realm of Hallyu drama OSTs resonated deeply with the audience.
Singers Sam Kim, Kim Na Young, and Gaho, who journeyed from South Korea, enraptured the audience with performances of OSTs from “It’s Okay to Not Be Okay,” “When the Camellia Blooms,” “Uncontrollably Fond,” “King the Land,” and “Start Up.” Gaho’s rendition of the dynamic OST from “Itaewon Class” evoked an enthusiastic response, with the audience swaying in fervent appreciation.
Notably, Hong Kong singers contributed to the melodic fusion. Barry Yip, renowned for his rendition of a Cantonese version of “My Memory” from the “Winter Sonata” OST, expressed his elation at collaborating with the M.O.S.T Orchestra, which included a violinist from the original performance over two decades ago.
Reflecting on the experience, Yip shared, “It feels like a magical way to keep the life of music alive together. I hope there will be more opportunities for such musical exchanges in the future.”
Singer Jiji Yim showcased her talent with renditions of the OST from “The Moon Embracing the Sun” and a medley featuring iconic Hong Kong movies “Days of Being Wild” and “Chungking Express.”
As the concert reached its conclusion, the borders between Hong Kong and Korea blurred, symbolized by a collaborative performance where Korean and Hong Kong singers joined forces to present the OSTs from Hong Kong’s blockbuster “A Better Tomorrow” and the Korean drama sensation “Descendants of the Sun.” The event concluded on a harmonious note, leaving an indelible mark on the shared musical appreciation of both cultures.
