SEOUL, South Korea, Oct 08 (Korea Bizwire) — In 2013 Mobile World Congress held in February at Barcelona, Spain, a service called “Tractive” has been given keen attention by pet lovers. The service is intended to keep tract of dogs and cats so that their owners don’t have to worry about pets straying too far away from them. The service is made possible by a small GPS device attached on the pet’s collar. if the pet is away from you, the device allows you to locate the pet in real time using GPS technology.

In addition, there are many other services available today to make you feel at ease. A service “Remoca” launched in Japan can enable you to watch the pet while you are away from home through a small camera and wireless network connected to the feedbox. A new social networking service in Korea “Pet Loves Me” allows pet owners to exchange information and befriend with each other through Facebook-like interface.

In the United States, a company launched in 2011 a service “Dog TV” for dogs left home alone. This is intended to relieve stress of dogs being left alone, based on a theory that dogs can be soothed if they watch TV. As if to prove the theory, as many as 1 million dog audiences have signed up for the service.
Growing Number of Pet Adopters Might Show Rising Number of “Lonely Souls”
Already, the number of households with pets in Korea is in excess of 3.6 million. That means one in every five households has a dog, a cat, or any other pet animal. As more and more young people opt to live alone while life expectancy gets higher, this trend toward more pets will go on for the time being. The market for pets, including pet food, pet supplies, and other, is 1.8 trillion won in 2012, up 80 percent from only two years ago. The market will rise to 6 trillion won by 2020.
Although the pet market is increasing by leaps and bounds, with more IT companies coming up with high-tech solutions for home-alone pets, there are still so many dogs and cats being abandoned every year. As of 2011, the number of abandoned dogs in Korea was as high as 100,000, costing the government and local autonomous governing bodies billions of won a year.
